If you are considering using hypnosis or cognitive behaviour therapy to help you quit smoking, then the chances are that you have tried giving up before and not succeeded.
The good news is that for smoking, the saying, “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” is so relevant; the more often you try, the more likely it is that you will succeed next time.
Of course, there is no foolproof ‘cure’ for smoking, but of all the approaches the evidence is still that clinical hypnosis achieves a higher success rate than others. Why is this? Well, it is most likely that this method helps to reinforce your motivation to succeed. And it seems that motivation is the biggest deciding factor in whether you will succeed or not. If you are ambivalent about quitting, if you think you ‘ought to’ but don’t really see the point, if you are quitting because you are being pressurised by a partner, then you might as well not bother trying – you will only feel disgruntled in the short period before you light up again.
So, before you try any method of quitting, work out your own personal reasons for quitting; why is it important to you? What kind of life will you be leading in 10 years time (assuming you live that long) if you continue to smoke? Will you be able to run for a bus? Will you be able to kick a ball around with the grandchildren? Will you live long enough to make use of your pension (50% of smokers don’t live long enough to collect their pension).
If you really want to quit, and you are clear in your mind about the benefits of quitting, then this audio recording will help you succeed. This recording has previously only been available to clients who see me in my clinic, and is now available for general purchase too.
Good luck and here’s to a healthier, fitter, happier, longer life!
